AGePOP Outreach: 2nd Webinar, Publications,
Upcoming Conferences

On February 6th, the second AGePOP webinar presented by Theodora Tzakri and Ekaterina Bocharova was presented to almost 70 people from both industry and academia. After a brief introduction, Theodora provided insights into the importance of gastric emptying for oral absorption and how advanced age can affect this parameter. Her novel method for measuring gastric emptying kinetics using specially formulated compression-coated tablets “Manteltablette” containing caffeine was shown to be just as effective, yet more user friendly than conventional techniques for older people that may have trouble swallowing.  Next, Ekaterina offered a valuable perspective on the characterization of luminal gastrointestinal fluids, providing rich detail about the importance of factors such as buffer capacity, acid secretion, fluid volumes and more. Along with a thorough review of the literature, the audience was given a sneak peek of her experimental results in older people. The webinar concluded after an active Q&A session and the recording is now available on the website.

Want to know more about our research? Along with webinars, the AGePOP ESRs are sharing the importance of their work through publications and conference presentations. This year, Angela Elma Edwina published exciting results from her research concerning methods for quantifying paracetamol plasma concentrations including a population pharmacokinetic model in older people. This is just the newest addition to the AGePOP library. Several other ESRs will be sharing their results at next month’s Pharmaceutics, Biopharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Technology World Meeting in Vienna. Meet Henriette Hummler, Cleo Demeester, Dorota Sarwinska, Ekaterina Bocharova, and more in person and have all of your questions answered. Poster presentation topics will range from real life dosing conditions in older people to the effect of sparkling water on paracetamol pharmacokinetics.
